Tours along broad rivers or narrow streams also provide contact with the riverside communities and the opportunity to experience indigenous influence at its best. A great feature is the local gastronomy and its exotic dishes. Tacaca soup is one of the most popular with tourists. The soup is cooked with tucupi (juice extracted from a specific variety of wild cassava), dried shrimp, tapioca starch, and jambu leaves.

When it comes to fish, the most famous dishes are baked, stewed, or fried tambaqui, brycon, jaraqui, peacock bass, and pirarucu. For dessert, we recommend local fruit, such as açai, araça, cupuassu, soursop, buriti, and tapereba.
